Well I took another E545 out of the lot of 26 the client had purchased and did a fresh install on it.  Ran through the same process and got it up to date with patches, updates, etc.  The NIC worked great so I imaged the drive.  Then I reformated the HD on the other E545 just to be sure I was starting clean and then I restored the new image.  Booted up the laptop and the NIC works fine on both machines.  Cloned the drive 5 more times on 5 more machines and no problems!  Must have just been a random corruption of the drivers the first time out.  At least it was easy to fix!
